Database update failed for some organizations when installing CRM 2011 Rollup 11 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've install new Rollup 11 (5.0.9690.2835) on our CRM 2011 rollup 10 v2 (5.0.9690.2740) environment. Well, the installation of the rollup itself went fine, but finished with the following warning:

“The Update Rollup 11 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server (KB2739504) completed successfully. However, the database update failed for some organizations. View the log file for more information. To update each organization manually, use Deployment Manager.”

Okay then, I opened Deployment Manager, and could see that my organization was listed as "Version 5.0.9690.2740" and "Update Not available".

How to update manually my organization to new version?

  • Hi!

    We had the same problem.

The error message in our log stated, that the setup tries to convert a varchar field in the database into a datetime field.

Our problem was, that the base language of the CRM system was English and the default language of the SQL server was German.

    You could try the following:

    1. Verify which language is set as default language on the SQL server for the user account you use to run the Deployment Manager:
      EXEC sp_helplogins "username"
    2. If the default language differs from the base language of the CRM system, do the following:
      EXEC sp_defaultlanguage 'username', 'english'

To get a list of all language aliases you can run the following SELECT-statement:

    SELECT syslanguages FROM master

    Good luck!

  • Hi!

Today I tried to install a new version of CRM 2011 server rollup 11 v2 (CRM2011-Server-KB2739504-v2-RUS-amd64.exe). But the error persists.

"The Update Rollup 11 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server (KB2739504-V2) completed successfully. However, the database update failed for some organizations. View the log file for more information. To update each organization manually, use Deployment Manager."

I opened Deployment Manager, and could see that my organization was listed as "Version 5.0.9690.2740" and "Update Not available".

The log file contains errors: Database update install failed for orgId = 68a93b67-148d-e011-b252-00155d5a6536.  Continuing with other orgs.  Exception: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904)

How to update manually my organization to new version?

  • Hi, Tristan!

Thank you very much for your idea and direction for the search of errors!

The base language of my CRM 2011 Server - Russian (LCID = 1049).
Default language on the SQL server for the user account I use to run the Deployment Manager is now set to the Russian language.

I changed the default language on the SQL server for the user account to English and installed the rollup 11 v2 (CRM2011-Server-KB2739504-v2-RUS-amd64.exe) update again. Install went without any errors. The database of my organizations've updated to the latest version 5.0.9690.2839.

    The end.

  • We also tried to install the UR 11 - the server update was okay, but the database update failed. In the deployment manager we are still on version .2839 (Update Rollup 8).

SQL Server and CRM 2011 have both English as base language.

There are no new versions for the organizations available in our deployment manager ... :-(

    Help is appreciated...

  • Oliver.Graf !

Check the version of the hotfix Rollup package on page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2555051

    CRM 2011 Update Rollup 8 = 5.0.9690.2243

    CRM 2011 Update Rollup 10 = 5.0.9690.2730

    CRM 2011 Update Rollup 10 v2 = 5.0.9690.2740

    CRM 2011 Update Rollup 11 = 5.0.9690.2835

    CRM 2011 Update Rollup 11 v2 = 5.0.9690.2839

  • Sorry,

currently in the deployment Manager, we are on 5.0.9690.2243 (Update Rollup 8), but we installed on Friday Update Rollup 11. The server update was okay, but the database updates were not installed.

(Because of the known problems with Update Rollup 10 we missed this one out consiously.)

I had a look at the hints here in the thread. The base language is English (US) everywhere.

  • Oliver.Graf !

I recommend that you first install the Update Rollup 10 v2 (5.0.9690.2740) and then re-install the Update Rollup 11 v2 (5.0.9690.2839)

  • I did the following sql statements (there were problems during the database updates when installing UR 11 concerning the daylight saving times and changed time zones):
    https://michaelsulz.wordpress.com/2012/11/04/ru11-kann-nicht-auf-der-datenbank-eingespielt-werden/
(Unfortunatelly this information is in German)
After that it was possible to reinstall the UR 11 v2 manually.

    Thanks for your help!
