same Named resources in Resource center ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know PWA wont accept Same Named resources while creating new users/resources. Any one know how to deal with this issue. In my org many employees have same names but with different user id and they want the same names to be loaded in Project as well.

Environment details : MS Project 2010

    Appreciate any help here.

    Thanks

    Kiran

Good question.  How about if for same named resources that you include their first, middle, and last names when you set up the new user/resource?  That would be my first advice.  Or, if somehow these people have the same first, middle, and last names, then why don't you add a role or team identifier at the end of their name?  For example, suppose that you have two resources who are both named Margaret Michelle Cobb.  One of them is a software developer, while the other one is an electrical engineer.  You could name one of them Margaret Cobb DEVELOPER and name the other one Margaret Cobb EE, for example.  Does that help?

  • Thanks Dale. This would definitely help as we this is like changing the names by appending something to the names.

However, we have backend jobs running in syncing the Names from an excel sheet to Project server via PSI scripts. Excel sheet contains the names of employees ( its an extract form company Active directory ) we are using PS in a hosted environment and we wanted to make sure that the employee data is in sync when there are any changes occuring with emplyee data.

So, i was trying to find if there is any way we could load same named users in PWA resource pool. and also is there any reason why PS does not allow same named resource because a user id is already unique then why we need to maintian Unique names too ?

    Regards,

    Kiran
