Third party defrag software RRS feed

  • Question

  • Has any one had any luck installing and using third party defrag software. I tried to use Dis keeper 10 that runs on my Server 2003 Standard and this just go well. MMC console crashed soon as I clicked on a drive letter in the software. So I uninstalled it as I did not want to loose data or the OS.

  • I would stick with the defragging utility in Windows (which WHS will run automatically on a regular basis, BTW). Defraggers have to play some tricks with the file system to do their job, and Drive Extender also plays some tricks with the file system. I would worry that the two would collide.

  • the reason I picked Disk Keeper is the internal defrag softare if XP and up is a partnership of Excutive Software (disk keeper) and MS
