Automatic shutdown of Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe on Windows 8.1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
    I have been using Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe (17.0.120.3817) for a month. The program is very useful for me, but when using Microsoft Money it often hangs itself and then the software is closed. Most often a crash occurs when you add a new account or modify your financial budget. I could ask for some help, a tip, advice on how to deal with this problem. My system is Windows 8.1 64-bit. Please help me.

  • Did you do the replacement of the mnyob99.dll file as described in the first "sticky" thread in this forum:

    https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d28d6921-1f01-430f-b33e-f5a3ec47077b/important-patch-for-money-plus-maybe-20062007-mnyob99dll?forum=money

    If that doesn't work or if you need help doing the replacement, post back.

  • Hello,

    Unfortunately, the dll file replacement doesn't work. While working with the program, selecting the "Bills Summary" tab resulted in unexpected closing of the program...

    :-(
    Any other advice? I am frustrated because I really like this software...

  • OK, you will need to do some investigation.  Here is advice from Cal Learner:

    Copy Sample.mny from your install folder (typically C:\Program
    Files\Microsoft Money Plus\ or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles
    with 64-bit Windows) to your Documents folder.  Open Money
    by right-clicking that copy of sample.mny and choose Open.  Migrate
    to the Portfolio.  Does it display?  If not, the problem is
    probably with your installation.

    If Sample.mny works correctly, your installation is probably
    OK. While in Sample.mny, go to Tools->Settings->ProgramSettings and set the
    (GeneralDisplay:)StartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:AccountList

    Open the problem file a time two.  Does that file open now?  If so,
    go to Tools->Settings->HomePageDisplayOptions and Remove the
    Investment Performance module.  There has been a problem where a
    lot of investments triggers a crash upon opening where Money opens
    to the "Home Page".

    If Sample.mny does not open successfully, then there would be a problem
    with your Money installation or your Windows settings.

    Make an extra copy of your backups onto other
    media in case you want to restore one that pre-dates the problem.
    You can switch back to your file by clicking File, and selecting
    your regular file from the list at the bottom.

    You can try a File->RepairMoneyFile->QuickFileRepair.  That is
    simple, but it probably will not solve this.  Then try I would try
    making a repaired version of your file with
    File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2

    Let us know how you make out and what, if anything, works.

  • I'm not sure I followed the instructions correctly. The Sample.mny file opens correctly. I didn't use the Investment Performance module before and setting AccountList as a start page for Microsoft Money did not fix the error either... I don't want to take time, but maybe there are other ways to fix the error...? :-(

    Sample.mny opens.

    You have done the patch, or is that what you did not want to take the time to do?

    Try  File->RepairMoneyFile->QuickFileRepair.  That is
    simple, but it probably will not solve this.  Then try I would try
    making a repaired version of your file with
    File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2

    I would select a new name for the repaired file, and then open that.

    If it still does not work, try restoring a backup that pre-dates
    the problem. Try your newest, or second-newest or even older backup.

    You mentioned bills. You might consider Remove All Bills.

    File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData

    This Remove All Bills Data feature would be for people who have
    experienced their Money file to run excessively slow.

    To just get some information within the program,
    File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData
    Read the information. Then click cancel.

    Before proceeding, make an extra copy or backup of your file
    in case you want to undo something.

    The problem will be that if you remove all bills, you will probably
    want to add at least some of your bills back.  This can be done
    manually with the aid of the reports that you print out before
    removing the bills.

    A technique that could help simplify re-entering your bills
    afterward would be to go your register and selecting a
    representative instance of your past bill and selecting "Make
    Recurring" (Ctrl+E).  This would be especially helpful if the bill
    is complex, such as involving a split.

  • Thank you SO much for this post! In Windows 10, MS Money Deluxe, Sunset version recently began closing immediately after opening and updating. I reinstalled MS Money, re-patched withe the .dll file, created an exclusion in Windows Defender, blocked outbound TCP from the program, etc. What worked was opening the sample file and opening to accounts as described above. I then removed the investment performance module on the home page too.
