My (Purchased) Product Key Doesn't Work. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an Acer laptop that runs Windows 7.  I recently had it restored to factory settings, which got rid of everything.  I have tried to re-install my (purchased) version of Microsoft Office Profession Plus 2010, but it continues to tell me that my Product Key is invalid.  What should I do?

  • This is a Windows 7 activation and validation forum.  It is not an Office forum.  The Office 2010 installation and activation forum is at

Do not use the product key on the label on your computer.  That product key is for Windows.  Use the product key on the Office dvd case or in the email if you bought Office online.  If you purchased from the Microsoft Store you can log into your account there and you will find your key.

  • thanks, I'll move the post there.  And I bought it online and am using the key from the email, but apparently it's not 'valid', despite the fact that I've used it before.

  • Use a magnifying glass to ensure you are't confusing 8 and B, etc.

  • Buy office.  The copy on your computer is a trial copy.  After the trial period you must purchase it to continue using it.  The Office forums are at
