Is there an answer SP3 remote access broken RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Hi everyone, so of course after the sp3 install, i no longer am able to remote into my server (from the web ) or the other 2 servers i'am administrating....inconvinent to say the least. I did uninstall sp3...then ie7...then updated  and tryed remote access again...guest what?...no go. Tryed all the workarounds on this fourm and the net i could find. Reinstalled remote web client. Upgraded my video drivers.  I did search the fourm.. did i miss the answer or is there not one yet?

My next move will be a restore from the server to a point before sp3. That should work right?

    Thanks , Gene

  • Ben, thanks for the reply...I did find an answer, tho not the one I was looking for...brought an old laptop back to life and install XP/SP2...does the trick for now. I forgot one important piece of advise given to me many years ago... "If it ant broke, don't fix it."  I should have waited to install SP3.Thanks to everyone for the help!

  • Did you check in Internet Explorer / Manage Add Ons, if the Terminal Services Client add on (or similar name) is enabled?

If not, you should do so.

  • Thank you Olaf for the reply....yes, my problem was that the add-ons did not show up in the lists...so...I deleted the keys suggested in other posts, that didn't work either. So I uninstalled SP3...again to no avail. Then I uninstalled IE7. still didn't work. So then I Downloaded and installed the newest verison of remote desktop and enabled all the components.Guess what??? Still didn't work...So then I did a Restore from the server...I didn't go back far enough, but I'll pick an earlier date and try again. BTW, the restore prosses worked great! (thank god ). One thing I did learn is to copy the drivers off the server from the backup before the restore to make the restore prosses easier. I'll keep plugging away at it, till I get it to work.

  • Answered elsewhere on these forums, but

    Internet Options/Advanced/Reset

Then enable your add-ons manually. you'll be able to see and enable the correct adon.

  • Thanks for the reply Catsaver...Sorry to say for me the reset didn't work.... the  add-ons never apear.
somehow the install of SP3 changed something on my computer to the point that even the removal of SP3 and IE7 didn't work. I don't know what happened but I do know I'm not the only one with the problem.  I've even gone into the advanced set up for trusted sites in IE and enabled all the Active X control options and still no luck. I do hope that Microsoft takes notice of this problem and issues a patch for it. Lots of other people running other types of Microsoft Server Products are also in the same boat from what I read on the fourms. My next step is to try an inplace "upgrade" back to SP2 and see were that takes me. BTW with AV and Malware programs off still the same results.
    Thanks for the help,
    Gene

  • There are some other fixes, although no sure fix. Try this link : http://www.wegotserved.co.uk/2008/05/17/windows-xp-sp3-update-breaks-windows-home-server-remote-access/ , it may help.

  • Okey, here we go...

Had the same problem after a clean slipstreamed xp sp3 install. Couldn't get the remote web access to work. There was no "Microsoft Terminal Services Client Control (redist)" in "Manage add-ons" to enable.

Did a new search on the web today and came up with this:

    1. Copy the following two files from your slipstreamed xp sp3 installation media to a temp folder on your HDD (say c:\tsc):

            tscdsbl.ba_
            tscuinst.vb_

If you use a downloaded xp sp3 installation file look on the web how to extract the two files. I'm not sure here but I think it involves extracting the whole installation file to your HDD (usually by running the installation file in a comman prompt with the modifier -x) and then grabbing the two files.

    2. Then in a command prompt standing in C:\tsc write the following:

            expand tscdsbl.ba_ tscdsbl.bat [RETURN]
            expand tscuinst.vb_ tscuinst.vbs [RETURN]

    3. After that run the two files by writing:

            tscdsbl.bat [RETURN]
            tscuinst.vbs [RETURN]

    4. Now start IE and try to remote access to your home server. You get the usual error message.

    5. Go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons. In the list "Currently loaded add-ons" you will now find "Microsoft RDP Client Control (redist)" and it's disabled. Enable it and try to remote access again.

Hopfully this will work for you. It worked for me.

I got the info from the following link:
