Additional paragraph tags appear when writing a post requiring manual deletion in Source view. Is this a bug?

Question

I did search in case someone has already posted about this but no result, so here goes...
I'm using Build 14.0.3913.522 on a Dell XPS 420 desktop PC running Vista Home Premium SP1. Installed this beta a week ago after using the regular WLW since its release last December. I use WLW to write and publish content to my various blogs all running WordPress versions 2.6 or 2.6.1.
Today I noticed an odd thing when writing a new post. When I took a look at the code in 'Source' view, I could see multiple instances of additional paragraph markers, both <p> and </p>, peppered throughout the post in between paragraphs. Manually deleting those was fine, but some re-appeared as I continued writing.
Would those additional markers affect the layout of the published post? I wondered. So I published the post to my blog as a draft and then looked at it in preview mode. Sure enough, enormous gaps between paragraphs were there. So I ended up editing the post on the server and manually publishing it.
Clearly a very unsatisfactory method of publishing!
The curious thing is that this behaviour isn't consistent: it doesn't happen on every post.
Is this a bug and is a fix coming? Or is there something I need to do?
Thanks for your help.

This is indeed a bug, and one that we have already fixed. You can expect this to be fixed in the next version.
Multiple <p> tags in a row should not make larger then normal gaps. They should be ignored according to the html standard. Some blogging services, such as Blogger, will change the blank <p> tags into <br/> tags, which will then cause a larger then normal gap.
This website has a good overview of whitespace and blank tags in html:

Thanks, Brandon, appreciate your reply.
When I published the post I tested, there were no blanks at all. So that's good. But, where it really does show up is in the RSS feed.
Can you say when the next version will be released?
