  • Question

  • im currently a MCSA and looking to upgrade to MCITP SA.
i have been studying for the 70-648 upgrade exam but found it very vague and seem a bit lost with it all. i have been using the exam cram book and train signal.

im thinking the easier route would be to just do my 640 and 642 exams individually.

i started reading the MS press book and using testout and cbt for 70-640 and it made so much more sense.

i just wanna hear how other people tackled this transition and if you took on the upgrade exam or did the upgrade individually. and tips on which path to talk would be appreciate. MCSE to MCITP SA are also encouraged to apply.

    Thanks
    Craig

  • Hi Upgrade exams are always harder. I would suggest you take mcts sever 2008 exams instead of the upgrade. Hope this is helpful.

  • I agree with Rubel, upgrade exams are always harder than the individual exams.  I passed the upgrade exam 649 on my 3rd attempt because of how hard it was (the 649 is the combination of 3 exams).  So for me it wouldn't have made a difference if I did the exams separately from a number of exams point of view.

To pass either the 648 or 649 you have to pass each section (each section is bascially an exam in it's own right) otherwise you'll fail the whole exam.  If you're having trouble studying for basically 2 exams at the same time, then I would recommend studying for the individual exams.  This is help you concentrate on one set of objectives rather then splitting you between the two.

  • You will save yourself $110 dollars by taking the upgrade exam.  From my experiance if you are a MCSA you will do fine on the upgrade test.  You can use the recommended books for 70-640 and 642 as exam prep material for this exam.  Plus you will have great reference material when you need it.  I also followed the microsoft recommended prep material for this test.  You will do fine if you understood the MSCA server material.  Good luck on your cert path, you will do fine!

  • in my opinion ,the easiest route to get MCITP is to take the exams separately for those with MCSE 2003 or MCSA 2003 instead of the upgrade exam

:And you can find the useful information you need from the following articles

Best way to Upgrade from MCSA 2003 to MCITP SA
