plug-in registration updating a plug-in RRS feed

  • Question

  • What are the steps for updating a plug-in?

Do I have to unregister, replace the assembly, register and restart iis?

Can I do the first 3 while the system is running and take care of the restart at some future, scheduled maintenance time?

  • Hi, Mardukes.

This steps depend on plugins' registration type you use.
    There are 3 types:
    1. DataBase - you just update plugin's assembly using plugin registrator tool. No restart iis is needed.
    2. File system - first you have to make iisreset, then copy assembly to bin\assembly directory.
    3. GAC - just replace assembly in the GAC.

In case of plugn updation, registered on Database, file or GAC you dont needed to Unregister it.
and in case of GAC and Database you even dont needed IISREST.

Just update new assemply on GAC, file or Database using plugin registration tool is enough.
and do IISRESET or Application pool restart in case of File registration.

I case of file system registration you my face access denied while overwriting old assembly with new one.
you just need to perform iisreset.
