Purchased 2 packages -- won't recognize new install RRS feed

  • Question

  • A real con game!  I purchased 2 One Care packages, which one might expect would translate into 2 years for 3 PCs, or 1 year for 6 PCs. However, after trying to install the second package after my first year, this clueless con-game software will not recognize the unused package.

My company offers a free McAffe suite, so good by to MS, and your cleaver marketing scheme!

One reason why I purchased a new Mac Pro 8-core, and will eventually dump Windows Vista!

  • I'm sorry you are having difficulty renewing One Care. The renewal process can be confusing but this post might help - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2908249&SiteID=2

  • I'll just add that if you have reinstalled OneCare at expiration f the first year, using the CD from your second package, but have signed in with the same LiveID at activation, your subscription was recognized and inherited by the PC - in a state close to expiration or expired.

You did not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply needed to renew with the retail key.

Now that you reinstalled, by activating with the same LiveID, the new install inherited the subscription status of the existing subscription and you were not prompted for payment or a retail PIN/Key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare if you are renewing within 30 days of expiration and 5 days if renewal was performed between 90 and 30 days before expiration.
