Avoid Reconfiguration of CRM 4 UR13 Client by DNS repoint to new CRM 2011 server?

Question

Hi there
Can we avoid reconfiguration of the CRM 4 Outlook client (UR13) by simply repointing the DNS record to our new CRM 2011 server, even though the computer names are different?
There seems to be conflicting documentation, the Planning Guide says
"When you perform a new installation or migration of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011 to a server that has a different computer name, all Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 for Outlook users must run the Configuration Wizard to point to the new URL"
But then on the dynamics blog it simply mentions the URL, not the computer name.
- Use a new name for the CRM 2011 server and make changes to your DNS in order to point old CRM 4.0 computer name to the IP of this new computer.
Can anyone clarify this situation for us, it would be good if we could avoid running the configuration wizard.
Cheers
Josh

In don't know.
But in the absence of authoritative clarification, you could test it on one machine (or an additional dummy machine/User) by editing the hosts file on the test client.--pogo (pat) @ pogo69.wordpress.com

Hi Josh,
If you have users configured with: crm.domain.com and the new DNS is crm2011.domain.com You could point the old domain crm.domain.com to the new domain with an alias or by updating the IP address of the new server.
If you use the server name and you decommissioning it, you could still force DNS to give a new IP address for the old server as this has been decommissioned.
You could change/play either way with DNS, unless you use the server name and you have to keep the old DNS name available to users then you will have an issue.
Note: when you import your organization make sure you select keep existing user mappings, otherwise you will have issues.
