re-activation needed?

Question

Hi, can you help me. I have just refurbished a relatively new dell xps 400 machine for a client with a substantial media usage, so I adding a terabyte of hard disk etc. and upgraded the OS to Vista Ultimate (OEM) from the existing XP MCE 2005. All, including activation, seemed to go well.
Then I realised that, even with the proper Vista drivers for the hardware, vista was failing to find the tv tuner devices. It does this for two separate Vista compatible tuners from different manufacturers. I did not know a system could crash so often!!
So, following XP tradition I have reinstalled the operating system (upgrade mode) to see if I could clear the problem and activated multiple times. I now realise this might be a Vista mistake, although I have had no trouble activating - since the web checks before downloading microsoft patches etc. now take absolute ages to validate. But my worry is that if I carry on reinstalling etc. until the system works the system could stop acitvating correctly.
I need to do a clean, format the hard disk, style reinstallation to see if this fixes the problems which I now suspect could be .net upgrade related. will I have problems activating. The hardware is basically the same -modulo tv cards coming and going.
I do not want to invalidate my clients licence - but I must fix the fault and get the TV tuners working again and can see it taking time.... and rebuilds.
Overall the cost of these things is very substantial to me - certainly much higher than the considerable cost of the software and hardware.
Thanks
terry

According to your this particular product key's policy you should be able to activate online 5 times. After that you'll need to call in to phone activation and explain your situation to a representative. You can start by typing "slui 4" in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter. Hope that helps. Thanks!Tuesday, April 24, 2007 1:50 AM
