Hard drive activity and WHS offline RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everybody,

This may be normal, but in the last year since I build my WHS server, I have not noticed it before. My home build whs occasionally goes offline, grey icon on client PC's. It does not turn off as the Power light is on and the HDD activity lights are blinking, last time this happened it when on for 24 hours, leave it alone and it comes back online. Anybody know whats happening.
    C drive is 500 gb
Available storage space over four drives is approx 500 gb out of 2300 gb.
One drive is over 80% full.

    That's definitely not normal.

You might try checking the router/switch the server is plugged into, the network cabling, the NIC drivers on the server, etc.

  • Hey,

iv also been getting this for some time now as well. Did you manage to find a fix for this or figure out what was happening?

i have a 20Gb C: with roughly 50% data drive full, it will randomly go offline yet remain powered on and appear fully functional. While it's "offline" i cant remote into it or interect with it in any way (eg connect to shares).

Anyone know wats goin on and whether there is a fix or not.

    Cheers.

  • Hi Penoodle,

No, not as yet. Thankfully it's only happened twice, as I said before before, when it does happen, it takes around 24 hours to come back on line. Maybe its some sort of house keeping/file rearrangeing.

    Regards
