Driver compatibility RRS feed

  • Question

  • WHS installed without problem on a ASUS P5Q Pro motherboard. When trying to install the motherboard driver DVD received a message about DVD driver software not being compatible with this version of Windows. (showed wint_5.2.) ASUS driver support download does not show WHS as an option. Does anyone know what ASUS driver version would work with WHS? Mostly concerned with getting LAN capability installed to access the internet.  Thanks for your help.

  • Typically you should use Windows 2003 drivers for WHS although often XP drivers will work. Sometimes you have to use compatibility mode.

  • It's usually better, if you try to get the drivers for these components directly from the maker of the network chip on your mainboard.
If these do not provide installation support on Windows Server 2003, try XP drivers, as the previous poster already mentioned.

In case the setup routine for these drivers complains about the wrong operating system, right click the setup program and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab enable compatibility for Windows XP, confirm the change and try to run the setup program again.

  • I believe this board uses an Atheros LAN part. Check out Atheros' web site for driver downloads for the AR81 Family. These are Windows Server 2003 compliant.
