VLK Blocked PLEASE HELP

Question
-
I logged in to my computer and accidently shut down before validation program loaded. I got a message saying my windows did not pass validation. I rebooted and went through the steps to conferm validation. I tried to update my product key, I took out my XP pro booklett and my genuine product key and input the 25 characters . The update tool said it did not match my key that the soft wear was loaded with. This is Impossibe. I only have the one copy of MS Windows XP Pro and it was purchased new when I constructed my computer. Please help! I do not want to have to format my hard drive and reinstall just to clear this up. The Product code shown by the MGA diag is not even close to the product key that came with my XP disk. I ran the MGA diagnostic tool and here is what it showed:

Hello,
I would really like to get a better understanding of this issue so we can better assist not only you but other users with similar problems as well. Could you please submit a service request with Microsoft Product Support using the following link: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52029. Please include the following information if possible. Also can you provide information highlighted below back in this thread? I will provide this information up my channels. Also I recommend for you to submit a piracy report by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/piracy
- Your product key for (Office or Windows),
-- Please post the last 15 alpha/numeric characters of your product key
- Business location where purchased
- Business Address where purchased
- Phone number where purchased
- Point of Contact @ the Business (if you had any)
- If purchased on the internet please provide the website
- What alias was the individual using online?
-- Usually this is prevelant with people who are selling software on auctions sites
- Provide us with your email address, telephone number and/or Cell number so we can reach you and provide you with an update.
- Did you purchase the computer brand new, used, @ an auction, off the internet or how?
Please provide the detailed information for the location.
- Is the computer a commercial built system or was the system custom built by a local shop?
-- Please provide all the details.
- Do you have all the original software which was originally installed on the computer @ the time of purchase?
- Last has the computer ever been turned in for repairs if so please provide detailed information as above?
-- If so please provide location details including webpage.
Also please run the diagnostic test again for inclusion with the support incident. This will enable us to review current information after any changes you may have made. Once you have done that, please reply back to this post and provide the SR # generated by the service request. I will work with you and provide this information you provide to my supervisor. Please let us know if you would be willing to do this!!
Thank you,
Stephen Holm, MS

Tim Burns,
You can "feel" for the presence of a label about 1/8" of an inch from the outer edge with a fingernail or other delicate object like a small pocketknife of even a straight pin. The real live XP CDROM (and the super-counterfeits!) has the hologram embedded within the plastic (a patented method of disc manufacturing developed exclusively for MS as an antipiracy measure) of the CD while the very good counterfeits have the hologram affixed to the top surface of the CD as a label. Go to this page http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/content.aspx?displaylang=en&pg=counterfeit and follow the Counterfeit Gallery links, then choose to see hi quality counterfeits of XP.
A CD with both the "270" number and "for distribution with a new PC" has all the characteristics of a counterfeit, BUT!!!!! only the Microsoft cryptographic lab can make the final determination. A CD with "for distribution with a new PC" should have OEM as the last three characters in the PID= value in the setupp.ini file.
My suggestion would be to run the WGA program and follow the prompt that leads you to sending in a report for suspected counterfeit materials. You'll be told how and where to send the actual materials you have along with info on where, from whom, and how you purchased the materials. I understand it takes at least 30 days for you to get a response after they get the materials. If you really do have counterfeits, you'll get a free copy of XP from Microsoft.

Tim Burns,
Right now, your computer has a Volume Licensing edition of XP Pro installed (Line 10), and that installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) (Line 2). VLKs are blocked by Microsoft at the request of the original keyholder for such reasons as the key was lost, stolen, compromised, misused, or expired. Also, MS may have blocked the key if it notices a pattern of misuse, ie, more installations of XP using that key than authorized.
As a rule, VL editions of XP should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and gov'ts normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licensing editons of XP are Upgrade licenses only and cannot be legitimatey used as the original or base license for a computer.
If you search the forum for the part of the Product Key shown by the mgadiag utility, *****-*****-X9QRG-J4B2Y-GR2TT, you'll see that over a dozen other posters have reported encountering that same blocked PK.
This is why you were seeing the "software counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of XP is an unauthorized installation.
Also, please note that the mgadiag utility is identifying your installation of Office 2003 Pro as being Nongenuine because it, too, was installed with a Blocked Volume Licensing Key (Office Status: 114 means nongenuine). If this comes as a surprise to you, please return to the place of purchase and demand either genuine Office software or a refund. In any case, please uninstall the nongenuine Office 2003 Pro installation from your computer.
Please follow these steps for assistance:
Step 1 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA). If you have one, tell us about the CoA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
Not sure what to look for? See this page for reference: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx
Step 2 is to navigate to the setupp.ini file in the \i386 folder of the CD you purchased. This is a small text file with two sections. Please cut and paste the second section into your response.
Step 3 is to look VERY closely at your CD, maybe using a magnifying glass. Is the hologram embedded within the plastic of the CD or is it a label affixed to the top? Is the inner band (encircling the center hole) embedded within the CD or is it a label affixed to the bottom surface? Carefully using for example a small sharp pocket knife may help you ascertain whether these are labels affixed to the surface of the CD.
Step 4 is to look on the CD and tell us if it has "For distribution with a new PC", "Not for OEM or Retail Distribution", or a green silkscreening.
One last question: Have you (or someone else) ever used another CD to run a repair reinstallation on the computer, or taken the computer to a repair shop to have them fix any sort of issue with the computer or XP?

first *****-*****-X9QRG-J4B2Y-GR2TT is not the product key on my CD it is totally different
Step 1)
It is Windows XP Pro. OEM Software. The hologram says for distribution only with new a PC. The COA is the Small Manufacturer Pre-installed Windows COAs label
Step 2) Setupp file
[Pid]
ExtraData=796674736977656D7A622E385892A4
Pid=55274270
Step 3)
Hologram appears to be a label
Inner band appears to be imbeded
Step 4)
RFor dristribution with a new PC only. For product support, contact the manufacture of your PC.

not to my knowledge but it is possibleSaturday, January 5, 2008 8:59 PM -
If you indeed have a genuine license (product key) for Windows XP Professional, then utilize the Windows Product Key Update Tool: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/PKUInstructions.aspx

Assuming you have a genuine Windows XP Professional CD and product key, perform a repair install. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Dan, I purchased the copy of XP on Oct 27 2006 from esoftPC.com on ebay . The Auction was # 110045127267 Unfortunately I could not pull up the auction as it is too old. It was advertised as a full version with Service Pack 2 and was lead to believe this was an authentic Microsoft product. They do have a website though http://esoftpc.com/Monday, January 14, 2008 2:26 AM
