SyncToy and Live SkyDrive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was pleased to see SyncToy 2.1 in my Microsoft Download Notifications, as it resolved an issue I've been having with similar 3rd party utilities. SyncToy is a good product, and is easy to use, but I do have one question:

Are there any plans to allow SyncToy to syncronise between local folders and my Windows Live SkyDrive? I ask because I am now using SyncToy to make daily backups of my data to an external hard drive, but it is my intention also to use SkyDrive for the most important backups that absolutely cannot be lost under any circumstances.

Perhaps by making SyncToy part of the Windows Live Essentials suite of utilities?

  • Hi Peter,

Thank you for choosing SyncToy and for your suggestion. That is a good point. I am going to let our devs know your suggestion.

Personally, I think it will not be too difficult to implement this feature because Microsoft Sync Framework has introduced enough flexibility to SyncToy. However, whether the feature could come out depends on many other considerations.

    Thanks

Thank you, JiGuang, for noting my suggestion and passing it along to the SyncToy developers. I guess now it only a matter of "let's wait and see". I shall be checking for updates to SyncToy regarding this.

Again, thank you for passing along my suggestion.

  • Having SyncToy work with SkyDrive would  be amazing. I am mainly commenting so that the devs know there are more people who would enjoy having compatibility between the two pieces of software. Also, with some marketing, I am sure the masses would learn, request, and eventually embrace such a feature.

  • I am using SyncToy for a long time now and syncing with SkyDrive and/or LiveWorkplace would be great. I hope that the developers will hear us.

  • FYI You can create a virtual drive using the Gladinet utility and SyncToy for synchronizing. (A quick search gave: http://www.sciencetext.com/make-skydrive-a-virtual-drive.html)

Outstanding! While not entirely what I was looking for, it gets the job done with the need for third-party Explorer addons!

  • I've been using Gladinet for a bit, except on my Windows Home Server where it clashes with IIS. There is a guide on how to get round this, but then I found something else: WebDAV. SkyDriveSimpleViewer gives you a path, which with a bit of massaging can be used to map an old fashioned drive letter to a SkyDrive folder - SyncToy is now slowly looking for changes on my SkyDrive.
