Restoring files to correct drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • My hard drive crashed.  I installed a new one and I am tring to restore my files.  One Care keeps trying to install my restored filed on my (factory installed) recovery (DSmile drive.  There in not enough space on that drive. How can I switch drives?" I need the files to be put on my C: drive.

  • If D: was always the recovery drive, then OneCare should have no reason to try to restore files to that drive. Hiding the partition is something that you need a 3rd party partition manager for and not something I'd recommend at this point, despite my reference to it before.

I believe that your best bet right now is to contact OneCare support. I'd be interested to hear what happens when you work with support, so please post back the results.

  • When you performed the backup, was D: your Windows drive?

OneCare will want to restore to the original location. If the drive lettering has changed, you will have the problem you are describing. I believe you may need to put the system back into the original condition/configuration as far as drive letters or hide the D: partition completely, which will allow you to choose an alternate location, I think.

  • Thanks Steve,

D: was never my windows drive.  It has always been my recovery drive which had the factory recovery information incase my computer crashed.  How can I hide the d: drive?
