Sync Toy RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hiya,

Is Sync Toy supported on Vail? With WHS v1, I don't use Folder Duplication, instead duplicating to an external USB drive every night on a schedule, so that I have the folders in a readable format without mucking about.

As I gather DEv2 is a lot more complex, this would be even more important when I upgrade to Vail.

  • Sync Toy is unsupported, period. It's a tool which Microsoft developed, but which you use at your own risk.

Personally, I don't use Sync Toy at all. Instead I use robocopy or richcopy plus custom shell scripts. Robocopy is built in Vista and newer Microsoft operating systems; richcopy is another unsupported Microsoft tool but a lot of people find it easier to use than robocopy. Either one is more robust than Sync Toy.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Is there a known reason why it's not supported? I know they have FD, but it is expensive disk wise, and after all, all SyncToy/RichCopy do is offer a nice gui for copy/paste functions.
