CRM Contacts in Outlook....no Outlook client RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all:

I have inherited a customer who had CRM installed some time ago. At that time they made the decision not to use the Outlook client (they have experienced performance issues with the Outlook client), and they also decided that all CRM Contacts would be owned by one “master” user.

They have a new hire who wants to have all the CRM contacts in Outlook, but from AFAIK even if we install the Outlook client and set up the synch, he won’t get the contacts since he does not own them, correct?

So now I am looking for ideas as to how I can either get the CRM contacts into Outlook, or let him access the CRM Contacts in Outlook. I tried getting him set up so that in Outlook when he creates a new mail message and clicks “To” he can see all the CRM contacts if he chooses Address Book->CRM Contacts, but the list is empty and searches return no results. Again, this might be due to the Contacts ownership?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    John.

  • Hi John, CRM for Outlook will sync the contacts owned by the user, by default. But you can amend the criteria of the local data group to specify which contacts get syncd, so your new hire can have any contacts he likes syncing with Outlook.

He can also specify his CRM for Outlook options so that the entire list of CRM contacts is searchable from his Outlook address book. It sounds as though you've found this option but perhaps didn't give it time to sync. It can be a pretty big address book, and by default it'll sync every 24 hours.

Make sure that the server and client are both running Update Rollup 7 or greater. The CRM for Outlook client was reengineered with UR7 and performs significantly better. Further improvements were made in later rollups so get to UR15 (the current one) if you can.
