Outlook 2003 as default email editor RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can the "send email" button inside Dynamics CRM open up Outlook 2003 instead of the Dynamics CRM default email form?
    Or add a new button that opens Outlook 2003 email form with all CRM data inside of it?

    Our users prefer to use Outlook to send their emails. Right now they cut and paste or send email from our CRM to themselves then forward to customer.

    Thanks

  • Here is how I do it on our system

    In the onLoad event add the following code

    if (crmForm.all.emailaddressfield!= null) {

        crmForm.all.emailaddressfield.ondblclick = function() {

            var email = crmForm.all.emailaddressfield.DataValue;

            if ((email != null) && (email.length > 0)) {
                window.navigate("mailto:" + email);
            }
        }
    }

    so instead of the user click on the send email button, they double click on the email address feild.  This will open the default email editor that the user have set in windows system.

  • Hi Michael,

    Yes, Wael answer is correct, the best practice to do it is using the Outlook Client, with the outlook client you will be even to track CRM Mails in CRM and in Outlook, so this is the best way,

    although, if there is a need to open outlook mail from CRM, then you can use the javasctipt funtion: mailto('< Mail Address>'); and it will open your mail client whatever it is.

  • We already have the CRM Outlook Client installed.

    A better example is I want to open an email already in CRM but the email opens up in my Outlook. This email already has several replies and messages. I'd like all this loaded in my default Outlook email editor.

  • I'm not sure you can load it into the editor but if it is being tracked, you can always hit the 'View in CRM' to see the details.
