  • SME,

There are a few dynamics happening. First it appears you have two versions of MS Office installed and running on your system. Microsoft does not recommend running multiple versions of Office simultaneously but it is possible to install and use more than one version on a single computer. Attached is  a Knowledge Base (KB) article describing problems you may encounter and offers advice on preventing different versions of Office from conflicting with each other http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290576/en-us.

Next you indicate 2007 Microsoft Office System is red. Is this version a trial version of Office which came with your system or maybe you installed prior installing Office Ultimate 2007?  You are receiving an error status 104 which is an unknown PID. This could be attributed to a Beta/Trial version of Office you previously installed and used. In turn maybe some of the byproduct was left behind which may have attributed to a false positive error 104. Please use the Office disk and uninstall the software. The  Microsoft Office in question may need reinstallation and then uninstall using the disk. Please touch back with me and let me know if you have a beta/trial version of Office 2007.

    1) Logon to the PC that is experiencing the notifications as a user with “ADMINISTRATOR” privileges.
    2) Download the tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 click RUN.
    3) When the tool loads, click “CONTINUE”.
    4) Is the “RESOLVE” button available? If so, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool repair the issue.
    5) From the Windows tab, click the COPY button.
    6) Please reply back to this post and PASTE the entire results into reply of this post.
We can take a look at it and offer you some suggestions as to how to resolve this issue.

I noticed you have a stand alone package of MS Office Project Pro.  MS Project is giving you a 101 activation error. This code means the product has not been activated or requires reactivation. Stand alone office products usually require separate activation..  First I would try and activate this product then restart the computer after it has been successfully activated. Next please attempt to activate MS Office Ultimate after the other version of Office has been uninstalled.  Should this not work then try to active via the telephone. Activate Office by using the Internet, you can select the “Activate by using the telephone” option. To activate the product this way, follow these steps:

    1) Start any Office program.
    2) In the “Office Activation Wizard”, click the “Activate by using the telephone” option, and then click Next
    3) Read the “Microsoft Office Privacy Policy” page, and then click “Next”.
Note You are not required to read the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy to continue these steps in Microsoft Office 2007. A link to the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy is provided so that you can read it at any time.
    4) In the “Select your location” list, select a country or region. Call the telephone number that is listed on line 2. The customer service agent will ask you for the installation ID and will give you a confirmation ID in return. Type the confirmation ID in the boxes provided.
    5) Click “Next”.
    6) On the “Activation Complete” page, click “Finish”.

Please reference the following KB Article should you have any problems http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275/en-us.  Here you will find links for various resolutions which you may encounter.  Also reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851.  Please re-post here should you need further assistance.Thank you and have a great day!

  • My new system had a version of Office 2007 pre-installed, I hadn't noticed it, but i had no serial number for it.

I just uninstalled this version and then the rest was working totally fine.

btw Norton Internet Security that came with my system and Vista did not allow me to activate my office programs. I had to desactivate the firewall in Symantec to avoid communication errors in the activation process.

    thanks for your help

  • SME,

The pre-installed version of Office you reference is probably a trial version. There won't be a product key to activate the product nor will it pass the OGA process. In turn this is what I suspected regarding your PID error (104). I am glad you are up and running again. Please post again should you have any OGA concerns. Have a great weekend!
