SyncToy deletes files RRS feed

I am using SyncToy 2.1 to synchronise my user files (~15,000 files 15GB) between a Vista desktop and an XP laptop (SyncToy runs on the laptop, the left folder bing the desktop).

Every so often it decides to delete a large number of sub-directories on the laptop, then copy them over from the desktop.  So far I don't think I have lost any files or edits, but it takes a long time to do this update - also it is a bit nerve wracking wondering if the synchronisation is going to work correctly.  At present it wants to delete 1,500 files - less than 20 have been edited.  As I write this I am trying the suggestion of comparing file contents, but the preview is taking forever, and I suspect the next time I synchronise with default settings it will want to delete this large number of files/directories.

Can anyone please explain why it is doing this, and how to avoid it?
