    gmonk,

Please try and run the CHkdsk tool on the system to check the volumes for issues.  This will repair any inconsistencies it will find. Here is the KB article for how to run chkdsk.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265

After a reboot, please run the diagnostic website for checking validation here at: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

and re-validate.  Did this solve the issue?

In addition, the diagnotic report indicates that the machine is not activated.

Online activation may be suspended after a certain amount of time reinstalling Windows XP and/or after significant hardware changes have been put in place on the current system to ensure you are following the EULA. If the above has not worked, you will most likely have to do activate the operating machine.

    I hope this helps,

  • It appears some of your Windows XP system files are missing or corrupt.  I would suggest performing a Windows XP "Repair Install": http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

  • Hi Lori,

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for the long delay in responding. I ran chkdsk with no errors and then I went to the link and ran the diagnostics and everything passed. Re-ran the validation and I still have the same problem.

Also, I tried to call the number to activate windows from the link you provided, and the only problem is it assumes that you have the activate window open. Not sure how you do that after you have activated it once.

As an update, I installed service pack 3 for XP in hopes it would update the files that seem to be out of sync, but it didn't help.

    Thanks,
    Gary
