Windows 7 suddenly no longer activated RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I've been having a look through here already and spotted a number of threads with similat issues to this, but not been able to find a solution amongst any of them. Everything was working fine up until this morning when I suddenly got a pop up from the notification bar reporting that Windows needed to be activated due to a hardware change (or something to that effect). No hardware has actually been changed on the machine since September, and Windows was reactivated at that point. I haven't tried to reactivate by phone yet (automatic won't work and I had to reactivate by phone last time) but I was hoping someone could take a look and see if they can spot anything unusual. I've already run an SFC scan and CHKDSK, neither found any problems.

  • There is no way for us to tell from your report.  If the error happens again, post a new report so that we can see the error messages in the report.  If activation fails a new report may show why.  We just had the January updates so if you did those the update process may have glitched.  Rare, but anything is possible.

  • Please rerun the MGADiag tool and paste the unedited results.  Some of the key information is missing from your report, especially the first part.  Be sure you use this link

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

and not a link in an earlier thread.

The only issue I see is your windows is not activated.

If online activation fails then try activating by phone.

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4

    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

    5) Stay on the phone (do not respond to any of the automated prompts) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

    6) Explain your problem clearly to the support person.

  • It's rare but we have seen a driver update cause a need for reactivation.

  • Thanks guys, I'd guessed it was down to something like that and was just down to a bug/glitch.  I'm pretty good with PC's but this one was a head scratcher as I've never seen anything like it.  I'll go through activation again tomorrow and see what happens.
