  • Question

  • Recently I have had problems starting up the console for WHS.

When I start it up, it gives an error statement saying it has experienced a problem with a feature during the previous attempt to open it.
When i click retry it opens up the console but i seem to be missing some features like installing AddIns.
This happens both when i start op the console from my PC and from the server itself.
I already reinstalled the console software on my PC to no avail.

Is there a way to repair this or do I need to reinstall the WHS server? Something I am not looking forward too.

Thanks for all your help and assistance in advance.

The only supported methods would be to uninstall any add-ins (which I'm assuming you can't do since you can't install them) and Server Reinstallation.

However, if you want to try an unsupported method (which may or may not work), you will need to provide more info.  What add-ins do you currently have installed?  Is there anything in the event logs on the server or client?  How about the WHS logs on the server (which can be found at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\logs)?  Probably start with the HomeServerConsole and Additions logs.

  • Thanks Kariya,

I had Whist, WHSDiskManagement and Autoexit installed.
However, the Console already gave problems and i thought it might be the Addins. I tried to uninstall them but I could no longer use the Addin option because it was no longer showing in the console.

I then used AddinCleanup to uninstall all 3 addins. These where, to my opinion succesfully removed, but still the console gave problems.

I looked up the logs as you stated and I found the following log:

As far as I can read this, the console is apparently missing some .dll files to load properly.
