Console and RDC no longer connecting RRS feed

  • Question

  • WHS was working great until 2 days ago. Though I have automatic updates turned off, some updates were downloaded and evidently installed when the system rebooted. I don't really know to tell the truth.

At any rate that morning I was able to connect via the console or the RDC. I had this problem happen earlier and thought it was caused by an update. The updates I saw were KB980436, KB9794453, KB2115168, KB2079403, KB982214, KB2160329, KB963093, KB2183461, and KB983583. Looking at the update history page I see the KB968389 has failed to install multiple times since the current OS was installed in early August.

Initiailly upon startup I was getting the error message that said "At least one service or driver failed....".  My initial plan was to uninstall the updates one at a time to try to eliminate the problem. They've all been removed yet the issue remains. KB980436 and KB9794453 were the first two I removed. The WHS was restarted after each uninstall process completed. After KB9794453 was removed I no longer saw the warning message at startup indicating a service or driver failed to load.

    Can anyone help with this?

    Thanks,

    Karl

First, I assume you mean KB979453 (there is no such update as KB9794453).  In any event, have you installed any add-ins or applications on the server?  Did you have any problems when you installed the OS?

  • No add-ins. Synctoy was installed on the server several weeks ago. I didn't encounter any issues during the install.

  • I ran the Connector Troubleshooter. I recieved an error labled,"No DHCP server, or DHCP server is not reachable". This doesn't make sense to me because I can still access the shares and backups are still being done. At any rate it pointed me to http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/7/2/272d0c12-bed8-41bc-a2a5-f55682a63f34/95412.htm for info on the issue.

The troubleshooter also said, "Cannot connect to the server internal Web site (password hint page)"

    Thanks
