If that doesn't fix it, then we may have to go diving into the registry to fix other pemissions.

Unfortunately, you have a non-genuine copy of a volume license version of Windows XP that can only be used in particular geographical part of the world. Since genuine copies of Windows XP are no longer sold by Microsoft, and your computer is really old (built in the year 2003), it would be best if you purchased a new modern computer that comes with genuine Windows 7 preinstalled.

For what version and edition of Windows is your computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?If it's for Win XP Pro, then you can try changing the Key to the one on the Sticker, using the Product Key Update Tool - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/help/genuine/product-keyIf it's for XP Home, then you will have to reformat and reinstall using genuine media.

To Gcalde: I am glad we could be of help.
To all Community Contributes: The Original Poster (Gcalde) has already marked Noel's post as the Answer to this thread. Please stop marking your own posts as the answer.
In fact, no one (exempting Microsoft Forum Moderators) should be marking their own posts as the answer to a thread, period. If it should be marked, I will do it.
(NOTE: a post can only be marked as the Answer to a Thread when the post answers the Original Poster's issue. If you are answering the issue of someone else, who is not the Original Poster for that thread, then your post can not be the Answer for the Thread, even if it correctly answers the other poster's issue)
Thank you,
