Vista Ultimate - activation error 0xC003C004, Product Key Already in Use

Question

Hi Darin,
I am having a similar problem to msany other users on here - mine is an upgrade to Vista Ultimate from XP, and has previously been installed (I did look for a way of de-activating, but only found a Technet article saying go ahead and re-install). However I have removed it from that machine, returning it to XP, and have now upgraded a different machine with this copy of Vista. I am getting the 0xC003C004 error when I try to activate on-line, and am not offered any telephone activation - what do I need to do to resolve this - 9 days left and counting?

Hi HowieB,
Try activating by phone, by following the below process:
Click the Start button, and type in "slui.exe 4" in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window.
Thank you,

I am trying to do this today, but the toll free number (in the UK) is coming up as number unknown, and the paid for number is too quiet for me to hear on my telephone even with the volume turned up to 11!
I have just rebuilt my PC with a new MB and had to reinstall Vista Ultimate, and now it won't acept the product keys as I have already registered them!
