Loading Content Directly into WHS from local disk (e-sata?) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have searched high and low for the answer to this seemingly simple question.  "Can I load my content (music, video, etc.) into the shared or public folders directly from a locally attached HD or must I use the LAN connection?"  I have several TB of content and I do not want to risk the chance of corruption (not to mention the hours of network time).

I apologize if this is a redundant or stupid question.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Yes, you can do it locally if your WHS has a monitor/keyboard. You may need to give the partition a drive letter through the Disk Management area.
Just remember to copy files to your shared folder \\server\  paths, as that is how WHS can properly run its Drive Extender technology

  • Use my Dual-Pane FileManager add-in for the Home Server Console. Navigate to your external attached drive on one side and your desired share on the other side and just click "Copy".
Simple and safe. No need for remote desktop or mapping drive letters.
