WHS webpage's intermiet on intranet and internet, WHS webpage not working

Question

Well first I would like to thank all out on the form as I have gathered many things.
Let's just say I'm running on a home build AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual 4600+ 2.41 GHz 4gb RAM.
I'm running Windows Home Server with Service with Power Pack 2
The windows Icon always shows green network is healthy
OK this is a problem if I'm in my own LAN local or try to access the webpage from the server or if I'm on the internet it is very slow if it even comes up at all sometimes it's all mixed up like the title bar is like 5 times on the page. Also the logon button never works. it's like it just does not want to respond to the request for the page.
I get lots of iv> stuff on the top of the page if the page even comes in
lots of times it gives me a Runtime error
When I run the Connector Troubleshooter I get
Cannot connect to the server secure internal Web site
Cannot connect to the server internal website (sinple page)
Sometimes the list is longer.
When I look at the event viewer I get lots of:

As seen in other posts I have tried the iisreset but that seems to do nothing for this probelm.
now don't know if it's related but I seem to have a probelm when I stream music and that is that it skips or is garbled at the 2second and 3 second mark then seems to play fine
I just don't know what to try or do
I did a reload and ended up with the same thing its funny I had the 90 trial running on a slower pc and things worked without a problem so I go out and buy the OEM CD and now have lots or problems getting this working, should I move the drives back?
open to all type of suggestions
Thanks in advanceTuesday, April 21, 2009 12:13 AM

Hi,
did you install any other applications on the Home Server than the components, which are delivered with it?
I would recommend to boot from the Windows Home Server DVD and perform a Server Reinstall. The server reinstallation is a special installation mode, in which the data is kept and only the OS, the user accounts and all installed applications and updates are wiped.
After finishing the installation (be patient at the end, since rebuilding the tombstones may take a while) use the update button on the console as long, as still new updates are offered. If all Windows updates for your WHS are applied, recreate the user accounts, configure remote access and on each client PC run discovery.exe from C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server to reestablish the connection to the server.

Mind you I think the reload did fix most of the musc problem that I was having
If anyone can suggest stuff that would really be niceFriday, April 24, 2009 10:21 PM -
This was a clean install and you did not add any applications or Add-Ins?
In this case faulty hardware cannot be excluded. IS there anything else in the event log of the server which could point to issues with memory, network connection etc causing information corrupted?
Or did you alter the settings for the digital signing in the group policies of client or server, so that encryption does not match? (You would know, if you did, so I dont go further with explaining.)

I did not add any addins the only thing I have done was to use the install disk the way you said to once it was laoded I did have to load the driver for and my network card (D-Link Adapter) once that was loaded I just did the update reboot, update reboot, over a few times until I got to everything is updated. I then turned on the.
further back in the log I have this
Event Type: Warning

I have rebooted a few times from when this is in the log also this was before MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB954459) was installed
I also can't find anything about any Hardware probelms all backup ran clean last night after I was finnsiehd the last of the updates.
Feel free to ask anything else that might help you tell me what i can do to fix this problem. Please also notFriday, April 24, 2009 11:32 PM -
Just so you know the network card was used in my old build along with the hard drives. The PC was used as my main pc and just converted to the home server so no hardware probelm had been seen in the past is all i'm really getting at.

ASP.NET is necessary and part of the Windows Home Server installation.
Login to your server locally and open Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Internet Information Services.
On Web Service Extensions check, which versions of ASP.NET are installed and if they are permitted.
My fully patched German WHS shows ASP.NET 1.1.4322 and 2.0.50727.

When I open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
It shows me both ASp.Net v1.1.4322 as Allowed and ASP.Net v2.0.50727 Allowed
In this list is does have Internet Data Connector with a status of Prohibted?
Should this be in allowed?Saturday, April 25, 2009 11:30 AM -
Prohibited is correct for Internet Data Connector.
On my WHS (although with some additional stuff on it) besides the ASP.NET components following stuff is allowed:
Active Server Pages
Server Side Includes (SSI)
WebDAV

Well I also have
Active Server Pages
Server Side Includeds
But for me
WebDAV is Prohibited?
Well I changed WebDAV to Allowed and now it seems at least on my local network things are working the way they should.
I will now just leave it until monday and see if it works from another network
Any idea what WebDAV is?
Thanks By the way you have been a big helpSaturday, April 25, 2009 12:09 PM -
WebDAV stands for "Web -based D istributed A uthoring and V ersioning". It's a way of allowing a remote computer to connect to a folder structure using the web just as though it was connecting to a share on a local server. On your server, it should be set to "Prohibited", unless you have the WebFolders4WHS add-in installed.
Note: the WebDAV client built into the Windows operating system is insecure and not full featured; it doesn't use SSL for authentication and doesn't offer the ability to lock files that are being shared; while the one built into Microsoft Office is secure, it will only be used when opening a file within a Microsoft Office application. So I would personally not recommend you enable WebDAV on your server without a fairly pressing need.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)Saturday, April 25, 2009 1:58 PMModerator -
As mentioned - I have some additional stuff on my WHS, which may have also changed IIS configuration settings, so the mentioned settings must not necessary be the real default - but fine, if it works for you.
WebDAV is technically explained on Wikipedia better than I could do that.

OK Thanks,
I have put the setting for WebDAV back to normal and that is Prohibited
As I was finding I was still getting the same type of probelms
Is there a way to reaload just the ASP.NET stuffSaturday, April 25, 2009 3:58 PM -
Hm, you may not be able to access the external name from inside of your own network, since not all routers support this kind of loopback.
Would it work from inside your LAN, if you open
http://k-server instead? (There will come up a certificate warning, but you can select to continue to that site.)
If this works properly. your router could be the reason. Is the firmware or the router up to date?
Which model is it? Is it directly connected to the Internet, or is there an additional modem between?

No I get the same type of results from inside my network and outside does not matter if I use inside IP address, Host Name, Outside IP, or Home server Domain.Saturday, April 25, 2009 7:41 PM

Did you configure Remote Access before or after applying all updates? If before, could you try to disable the Website and enable it again?
Eventually this method Colin Hodgson posted in another thread a while ago may help you:
logon locally or via Remote Desktop into the server, start regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASP.NET_2.0.50727\Names (this will vary, depending on the version of .NET framework you have installed).
Right-click Names and select Permissions on the context menu.
Click Add and enter NETWORK SERVICE, click Check Names and click OK.
With NETWORK SERVICE highlighed in the Groups or User Names list click Advanced
On the Advanced Security Settings for Names dialogue highlight NETWORK SERVICE and click Edit
In the Permission entry for Names dialogue check the Name box is showing NETWORK SERVICE and put check marks against Query Value, Set Value, Create Subkey, Enumerate Subkeys, Notify and Read Control.
Click OK on all the dialogues and close the registry editor.
Good luck

Thanks for you help I tried all that and still nothing. I have had to give up as the family is now pissed that I took all the music and stuff and no one is having much luck with the new server.
I have now put it back on the old Pentium 4 1.6Ghz with 768MB of RAM and it seems to work find again. No problems with music and the webpage has no problems mind you now I can't seem to get the console working thought the webpage but I need to look into this further think it has more to do with port 4125 than anything else.
It must have been some type of compatablity probelm as I'm using the same network card and hard drives.Wednesday, April 29, 2009 12:07 AM -
Port 4125 (Remote Desktop Proxy) is solely for giving remote console access to your server from the Remote Access website. All other features on the remote access site do not need that port.

OlafWednesday, April 29, 2009 6:31 AMModerator -
Thanks once again I have hard coded port 4125 now everything works but like always I have another probelm.
My home server keeps telling me that "updating port forwarding for your router failed" now as all my ports are hard coded in the router and work I tired to check the "Ignore this issue" but it seems about an hr later it comes back every once in a while if I run the test it's good for a bit then failes. How can I turn of the testing of this.
As always open to the masters out on here for commentsThursday, April 30, 2009 9:55 PM -
Hi,
I do not experience this - but I use a fixed IP address for my Windows Home Server.
This allows me to ensure, that the DHCP server in the router does not assign an IP address, which does not match the original WHS address, which is set in the router.
