Communication Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using hleOfxQuotes-gui-Build_20180802_219-exec.jar for some time to download investment prices regularly from the FT with the tool doing the importing without any problems until recently. The program is Money QFE 2005

Suddenly, I have begun to receive:

"A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have problems call your financial institution online services support"

I am not importing from a financial institution, just using the tool as before which is automatically downloading from the FT . The message does not occur until Money is open so seems to be generated because money does not like something in the OFX file or is expecting another form of input.

Thus it might be something that has inadvertently been changed in the money program settings or something the FT has done so that the tool can no longer create the expected OFX file

Please could you suggest a solution

    Richard

PS the OFX file is long but starts:

    <?OFX OFXHEADER="200" VERSION="200" SECURITY="NONE" OLDFILEUID="NONE" NEWFILEUID="NONE"?>

  • Richard,

I took a quick look at the above OFX and did not see anything out of spec.

I've seen in the past, Money will complain with similar error but if you try again, it will work with no error.

Is the problem repeatable? If you try to import again using the same file, do you still get error?

  • Yes. The same problem reoccurs both with that file and a new investment one just downloaded today using the tool.

I downloaded a file from the bank and that imported correctly. It asked me for the account, as usual, and I selected the correct one for the import and it worked as before

The tool does not require one to select the account. It has always gone straight to Dummy. However, now, it does not even start. The message comes up straight away. It is as though money thinks that it has dialled up the internet server and is not importing a downloaded file.

I have also tried an older version of the tool which uses a mapper file and a downloaded CSV file from FT.com. This had the same problem

I can't help feeling that the FT has changed something. The FT does its upgrades over the weekend and does not consider or tell anyone that they have done so. Alternatively, is there a setting in Money that makes the program think it is directly downloading from a server.

The end of the OFX file is pasted below. Does it contain anything that might trigger money to think something is wrong

  • If you can send me a copy of generated OFX file to hleofxquotes at gmail dot com, I will take a closer look when I get home tonight.
