after uninstalling .net (all versions) and reinstalling. then setting .net asp to version 2 in all the IIS vdirs. I have the console working on the server again. But i still can't connect from the workstation. I verified all the ports are
open and I can access them (80 443 55000 etc)
what i have noticed.... when i try to connect from the workstation I get the "the computer has lost connection" error. when that happens I look in the logs (on the server) and find
EventType clr20r3, P1 homeserverconsole.exe, P2 6.0.0.0, P3 4acceb5f, P4 mscorlib, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4be90358, P7 e4, P8 10, P9 system.security.security, P10 NIL.
also in the IIS logs when this happens are a lot of 500 errors like.
2010-10-22 20:17:59 W3SVC1 10.11.12.104 GET /MediaCollector/AWOL-WIN7/config - 80 - 10.11.12.60 - 500 0 0
and

500 0 0
i've uninstalled and reinstalled all updates and service packs
also when i try to access the site here.
http://hpstorage/home/default.aspx?gotodefault=true i get a runtime error.
Runtime Error
Description:
An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running
on the local server machine.
i'm pretty sure it has something to do with IIS settings but i can't find any info on how to reset them to defaults. any help is appreciated. thanks oh its a HP media server btw (not a home brew) default install no add-ins (i installed
clamwin to scan it for viruses)
