WHS and PC

Is it possible to open a resource/program on your PC via a shortcut on WHS on remote access? If so how would you do it? It would seem if they are networked they could but I haven't figured out how to do it. One of these days I hope the program I want to use either gets a GUI accessible from the web or lets to use it from a USB thumb drive.Wednesday, April 15, 2009 10:09 PM

I'm going to have to say that you're going to need to deal with TalkSwitch technical support to get this configured to your satisfaction. As far as I can tell from a brief perusal of the online manuals, help, and downloads on that site there is no need, in day to day use, for you to be able to use the administration software remotely, and it appears that the only software to be installed is for administration. As for running an installer (or any downloaded program) on your server, you will need to copy the file to your server's desktop, and then right click the file and select Properties from the menu that appears. After that, click the Unblock button. Then you should be able to run it. However, this is unsupported...

You aren't very specific, but in general you don't. Browsers protect you by not allowing web pages to run programs, open files, etc. automatically.

I am still tinkering with how to access my phone system. I dropped the shortcut to it's config software in my WHS public folder. I can open from there on my PC and through the console. However my wife was not able to open the file when she remote accessed to the server.
The shortcut has .ink as an extension.Wednesday, April 15, 2009 10:34 PM -
Your wife doesn't have the software installed on her computer, or not in the same location you 've installed it.

She doesn't have the phone system software installed on her PC at work. My whole pursuit has been how to get to the phone system via WHS since it is the vehicle to reach anything on the network remotely.
Apparently the phone software cannot be installed on WHS and I cannot access across the network to the PC it's on. I guess there's not a workable solution.Thursday, April 16, 2009 4:01 AM -
I know its been said here that WHS Server is a layer model working on Win 2003 Server. Having said that, The manufactuer of the phone softer said this about it's software.
"Though Windows 2003 Server is not officially supported, TalkSwitch software is expected to operate in the majority of field installations."
I did try to install on the HP MSS and it would not let me run it's .exe.Thursday, April 16, 2009 3:01 PM -
