I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing and would like to provide you with some self-help options we have made available for our customers to address the issue you are currently experiencing. Please follow the steps outlined below as it could either resolve your issue or, if need be, provide us with additional information to determine the cause of this issue.

    1.      Ensure you log onto the computer experiencing the issue with “Administrator” rights.

    2.      Next we would like to confirm that you are running the most current version of the Genuine Advantage control on your computer. In order to do this please follow the below link and choose the “Validate Office” option.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine

If the above steps did not resolve your issue lets continue with the steps below.

I would like to provide some of the self-help options we have made available for our customers to address these issues. If you could please follow the steps outlined below the diagnostics Web Site will attempt to resolve the validation errors you are experiencing with Office.

    http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/diag/RunDiags.aspx?displayLang=en

Next follow the on-screen prompts to resolve the issue if any of the checks at the above site fail. You can do this by choosing the “Resolve Now” button if it appears. If, after attempting to resolve the issue as per the instructions on the above site fails, please refer to the link below and run the MGA Diagnostics tool:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

You will be prompted to either “Run” or “Save” the tool. Choose to “Run” the tool and follow the on-screen prompts. You will receive an “Internet Explorer-Security Warning” dialog box for the “Windows Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool”; you must choose to “Run” this tool when prompted.

Once you are presented with the Diagnostics tool choose “Continue” to run the diagnostic report. If the “RESOLVE” button is available after running the diagnostics, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool to attempt a repair.

    1.      After running the MGA Diagnostic tool, click on the “Windows” tab and then click on “Copy”.

    2.      Please return to this post and “Paste” the results here for additional review.

  • I, too am having the same problem as above except I have Office XP.  My hard drive crashed a week ago and I had to reload Office XP on the new drive. I also upgraded my bios.  When I went to validate Office XP I got the same error message number as ktroyer.  I followed all the steps in your original letter to ktroyer and here are the results of the test.

I have used this same installation since I bought my computer in 2005.  I have kept it updated and never had a problem with the validation tool before.  I bought the Office XP from a legitimate seller.

If I have submitted this incorrectly I apologize. This is my first episode with this group.

I am sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is with Microsoft Office XP Professional and why it is not passing validation.  Unfortunately, the product key used to install the operating system is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder.  As a rule, VL editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and versions of MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.

This is why you were seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of MS Office 2003 is an unauthorized installation. In any case, please uninstall the non-genuine installation of the operating system to alleviate any complications which may arise from the non-genuine status of your system. As a customer there are options available to you for a resolution. For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details or http://www.microsoft.com/genuine.  It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take.

First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer and let them know MS Office is a counterfeit copy.  Please print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the 114 Blocked VLK statuses.  Demand they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy which was originally paid for. Curious was your computer turned in for repairs/upgrades and was the hard drive reformatted?   In any case, please uninstall the non-genuine installation to alleviate any complications.

Again, I am sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk because a clean installation or reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.

  • Russ,

It appears there are two version of Office installed on your computer. Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 is experiencing a PID Error 104. Usually this is associated with a trial version which was previously installed @ the time of purchase or by the user. In turn users are allowed a certain amount of launches before the trial version becomes void. Please uninstall this version and restart your comptuer. Next please validate both your windows and office by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ .  Next located the "validate windows" and "validate office" button and launch each of them following the directions. This sould solve your problem.

    Thank you,

  • PlJNS,

It appears there are two Office Suites installed on your machine. Is this a trial version of Office which came pre-installed with your system or maybe you installed prior installing the other Office?  Trial and Beta versions of Office Suites will not pass the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) controls. OGA sees the Trial version and then flags the computer as having a non-genuine installation of Office. This may be why you are receiving error status 104 which is an unknown PID.

First this could be attributed to a Beta/Trial version of Office currently installed.  The second possibility could be some of the beta/trial remnants were left (after attempting to uninstall) behind which may have attributed to a false positive error code 104.  Please use the trial/beta Office disk and uninstall the software.  The Microsoft Office in question may need reinstallation and then uninstall using the disk.  Should this fail please look @ the following Knowledge Base (KB) article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us. Here you will find detailed instructions for uninstalling Office Suite 2007 system which cannot be uninstalled by the “Add or Remove Programs”.

After you have completed the Office removal process (should you have a trial installed) please run the diagnostic test again.  Please follow the steps below:

    1) Logon to the PC that is experiencing the notifications as a user with “ADMINISTRATOR” privileges.
    2) Download the tool:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012   click RUN.
    3) When the tool loads, click “CONTINUE”.
    4) Is the “RESOLVE” button available? If so, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool repair the issue.
    5) From the Windows tab, click the COPY button.
    6) Please reply back to this post and PASTE the entire results into reply of this post if this didnt resolve the problem.

We can take a look at it and offer you some suggestions as to how to resolve this issue

    Thank you,

  • I recently bought a new laptop from Lenovo with a trail version of Office, and then bought Office 2007 Home and Student. I get the same error message from the diagnotsic tool (104 Unknown PID). I would uninstall the trail version, but the Program list has four things:

     - Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components

     - Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies

     - Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007

     - Microsfot Office Small Business Connectivity Components

which ones can I keep and which ones goes?

    Thanks!

    Thank you,

  • Hello Krtroyer,

Thank your for providing us with your Diag results :-). I noticed you are running multiple Office Suites. The Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 is giving you a 104 Unknown PID error. More than likely this was preinstalled on your system @ the time of purchase. Please uninstall it and restart your system. Next visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine  and locate the "Validate Office" button in the upper right hand corner of the monitor. Please click on this button and follow the instructions. This should solve your problem. Please post back in this thread should you experience further problems.

    Thankyou
