Upgrading CRM 3.0 to CRM 4.0 RRS feed

    Hello,

    Hoping everyone could give me some advice here.

    We are currently using CRM 3.0 update rollup 2 with a SQL 2000 server.  CRM & SQL currently reside on seperate boxes,

    CRM --> Win 2003 R2

    SQL --> Win 2000 SP4 x86

    We need to upgrade to CRM 4.0 and SQL Server 2005 SP2.  SQL 2005 will be a new physical box, CRM will be upgraded in place.

    CRM 4.0 --> Same physical box, still Win 2003 R2

    SQL 2005 --> New physical box, Win Server 2003 x64

    I would like to be able to replicate my existing enviorment to perform testing.  I know I can copy the SQL databases to a different SQL server by either doing a backup/restore or attach/detach.

    But how can I create a new CRM 3.0 install that will point to the existing databases?

    I know in CRM 4.0 you can import an existing organization but is there a function like this in CRM 3?  What is the best process to test an upgrade?

    Any insight would be wonderful.

    Thank You,

    Jon

  • You can do what you want by selecting the 'Connect to existing databases' option when installing CRM 3.0
