Repair Problem

Question
-
I used the XP disk to repair as system would not boot up. Now it's asking for the product key. It was not on a label on the side of the machine nor in my files. The product key request is located on a window entitled Windows XP Home Edition upgrade. (not this computer - a laptop - but on my desktop.)
The repair process has been halted and remains open at this page pending a response!
Help!

Hello Taxlady,
What type of computer do you have; custom built or commercially built system? There should be a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) located on the side or maybe the top of the tower. This is required either by a commercially purchased system or a custom built system by a local store. The COA will have the product key which you currently need in order to validate/activate Windows XP. Do you have the original packaging which your Windows software came with? If so please look here to see if there is a sticker which would have a 25 digit alpha/numeric code. Also please look @ http://www.howtotell.com . Here you can see examples.
Thank you,
