Track usage but not archive RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're running OCS 2007 standard edition (not R2).  We have a single server running the SQL Express database.   Although managment has high hopes, all we currently use it for is Instant Messaging.  We do not archive.

A manager recently asked if there was a way to track an employees usage (not what they're typing per se, rather how much are they using it).   Is there a way to track that?  I think the worry is certain employees are chatting with friends all day and not workign.  Again, they don't want to log WHAT they are saying, just how much time is spent chatting.

    any thoughts?

    Thanks.

  • You can enable "Call Detail Recording" without turning on archiving. You will still need to deploy the archiving server, but in the DB you will only get details about what sessions were set up (ie who chatted with whom), not the contents of individual messages. Have a look for CDR in the documentation for details.
