Off Topic:restore MS Word Files

  I downloaded Open Office. I decided to uninstall. After uninstalled, all my MS Word files remained in MS Notebook, and all footnotes were gone.
  
  How can I restore the files to MS Word?
  
  I have checked, and the files to not show on install/uninstall and I used finder and program files to see if any files were left. There were none.
