  • Question

  • I got this noticce last year and though I believed my copy was genuine, I went ahead and paid $149 to download a new license or whatever the instructions told me.  Now I am getting the same notice again.  I remember it was about this time last year. I refuse to pay again so need some instruction on what to do.  I am not very knowledgeable with computers so please make it simple.

  • Your installed copy of Windows XP Professional is indeed genuine.  However, the installed copy of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 is non-genuine.  It is a Volume License copy whose product key has been report misused, lost or stolen by the original Volume License owner. Consumers should only purchase "retail versions" of Microsoft Office.

  • So when I got this message last year and paid $149 to the Microsoft Genuine Offer it did not cover everything that wasn't genuine.  Does that mean next year about this time I'm going to get some other not genuine and have to pay another $149.  Seems like something is going on to generate a $149/yr/person cash flow. This really feels like a scam to me.  I have only dealt with Microsoft so if some license is blocked it is because Microsoft or one their agents falsely sold me something.  Is there someone who can straighten this out.  If not I will do all in my power to spreaad the word abot what is going on.

  • You purchased a Windows Genuine Advantage Kit to enable you to have a legal and genuine Microsoft Windows XP operating system. It does not pertain to Microsoft Office which may have been recently flagged as non-genuine because the Microsoft Office product key was recently reported as misused, lost or stolen to Microsoft by the legal Volume License owner of that license.

  • As I mentioned earlier, I have never purchased anything except from Microsoft other than what was originally installed by Dell when
i bought the computer.  This is making me very nervous as I do not have the funds to be continually paying for things I already paid for.  I have no idea of legal Volume License stuff, I'm just a small time home user and would never order from any place other than the original.

  • I too just got this problem.

I have a small business and my copy likely came from dell as well.  If Dell (or and volume distributor) is reporting a key abused, lost or stolen it forces us all to purchase a new copy?
