Massive ping times when Mesh running on any machine on network RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently had some real issues with performance on the home network.  The speed issue was down to having PING times of around 800ms when normally its around 60ms.  Tracing this but removing machines and stopping services I found that this was directly related to when Mesh was running on a machine (any machine) and sync'ing information.

I did see a post that suggested this may be ralated to using ESET Nod32 and it's HTTP analyser, although disabling this had no affect.

At this time I am unable to use mesh on any machine as enabling it kills my network.

This is shows the impact of starting and stopping mesh on one machine on the network.

  • The best I can offer, Andrew, is that you submit a bug report. There have been a handful of reports of issues with Live Mesh and LAN utilization, but I've never seen a common factor (other than Live Mesh) or rot cause reported. In my experience, Live Mesh never causes any issues on my network usage at all.

How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs

Note that you may not receive a response to the bug report, though. It will be transferred to the internal system to be assigned to the appropriate development group.

  • Thanks for the response,  I have done some further testing and it appears that on the network if I do any large downloads the ping time goes through the roof.

I suspect this could be something the ISP may have tweeked on the line to give the perception of a better connection speed that I can actually get.  Will check with the ISP and post back any finding.

Safe to say that this is NOT a Live Mesh specific problem.

  • Do let us know your findings, Andrew, as I noted others have reported similar behavior with Live Mesh.

  • I confirm the same behavior, I can download large files with no problem , but when I launch live mesh and he need to synchronize something, my network collapses. I usually listen to internet radio with media player, and when live mesh is active it is completely stopped, the bandwidth utilization of moe.exe is not high but every other program that try to access internet is completely blocked.

other pc on the network experience slow connection whenever one of the pc is running mesh. one computer has NOD others have avg.
