Feature Request: Check file contents optimization RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

If two file sizes are different, or one file does not even exist, does SyncToy skip calculating the checksum?  If it doesn't maybe it should.

    Thanks,

    Bobby

  • Did you met some problem with this?

Yes, file size changing will be considered as a change factor, and if the file does not exist, if it is after sync scenario, this will be considered as file delete.

  • Hi,

    My experience was the following:

I'm using SyncToy to run my backups and I was running my first backup.  There were no files in the target location and I was using the Echo action.  Yet, when "check file contents" was enabled SyncToy took much longer to analyze my files and determine what needed to be done then when it was disabled.  I assumed that this was because it was computing checksums for my source files, even though there were no destination files with the same name.

    Thanks,

    Bobby
