No Audio from Headphone jack

I am using Vista on a Dimension E520 and just installed Roxio VHS to DVD. Had no sound problem transferring VHS to DVD I plugged in my headphones to the front headphone jacks (to hear recording of records...yes records), but there is no sound. The external speakers work ok (not for transfering records though). Also, it should be noted that when I plug in the headphones, the external speakers shut off. My drivers appear to be up to date. Any ideas?

I am a total novice, so please respond as if you were speaking with a "dummy". Thanks

i think this your headphone jack problem which not properly adjust that's why you facing problem. Try some other headphones.
