weet,
Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide the following information and steps for you to follow to attempt resolving this issue.
WINDOWS VISTA:
1) Click the START button.
2) Click ALL PROGRAMS.
3) Look at the list of your installed programs and find INTERNET EXPLORER.
4) Point the mouse cursor over top of INTERNET EXPLORER until it is highlighted and click the RIGHT-MOUSE button and choose “RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR” from the menu.
5) You will be prompted by a Windows Vista dialog box, and I want you to choose “ALLOW”. This will allow IE to start with administrator privileges.6) In the new Internet Explorer session, manually type or copy this URL http://www.microsoft.com/genuine (again, make sure it's the new instance of IE that opened as “Administrator”.
7) Once the /genuine web site loads in the new IE browser. Click the “VALIDATE OFFICE” button. What happened? Are the results different? Please re-post here should you need further assistance. Thank you.

Same problem with me I have a genuine version 2007 office, it is activated and have downloaded updates, cant get add on downloads ie; save as PDF etc, because it wont pass Office Genuine Advantage validation.
I get this below:
Understand your validation results
Many customers are surprised to learn that their Office software cannot be classified as genuine. Our goal is to help you understand the reasons why your copy did not pass validation, and to show you how you can address this situation. Please click the blue “Next Steps” button for details.
- 2007 Microsoft Office system: Validation Cannot be Completed[0x80180112]
I tried to do the following troubleshooting option below after clicking next step:
Users running Windows Vista:
- Click the “Start” button.
- Type: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Office Genuine Advantage\data
- Delete the file: data.dat
- Go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Office button.
These are very vague directions, but also cant find the file in vista as the file structure in vista is different to this, searched for data.dat and cant find it anywhere

As stupid as it might sound, I resolved the same problem, after many hours, with unsuccesful microsoft tech support, by disabling the explorer security options. Mine was set to medium security - apparently that enough to block microsofts own verification process. Hope this helps for other dealing with the Microsoft Genuine Disadvantage system.

Good news for those looking .... hopefully!
I had the same problem as weet when I wanted to download an Office Template (some require Validation). I got the same message as Towknee. I'm using Office Pro 07 SP1 on Vista SP1.
I followed Lori's instructions with one addition and it all worked out well. My addition was to Disable Protected Mode in the IE Security Settings just for the Validation. I did this because I'd read a post that said the problem was overcome when disabling this or turning Security Settings down to minimum. I didn't try just as Lori details, but at least there's hope there!
So, I'm happy. Give it a try. Good luck
