Can't restore individual files after restoring PC

Question
-
Hi.
I've got a 4 computer plus WHS rev 6.0.1771.0 network.
I have one computer that I had to do a full system recovery on (mine of course :). Since the recovery I can no longer open individual backups in the WHS Console to restore individual files and folders.
The other 3 computers on the network work fine.
The machine in question is running WinXP Pro w/service pack 3 and all updates. (All machines on the network are running the same).
The WHS has all components at rev 6.0.1771.0
I have tried reinstalling the connector software on the problem machine but it makes no difference.
I don't see how this issue is related but since the recovery when I try and run msconfig I get no interface to it. I can see that it is supposedly running in task manager. If I reboot the computer into safe mode I can now see the interface to msconfig when I run the command.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

This is the only machine I've done a restore from WHS to, so don't know if this would be a problem on any of the other machines.
I do have a laptop I've backed up to WHS and then installed Linux on. So maybe I'll try a restore to it and see what happens.
Do I need to create a new restore CD now that PP1 is on the server? Or can I use the restore CD that came with WHS?
Thanks

Please check the event log of the PC in question. Usually you find a more detailed error message here, which may help to discover the reason for the misbehavior.
Best greetings from Germany

You could try upgrading to the final version of Power Pack 1 (which should really do anyway) and see if it helps.Tuesday, September 9, 2008 12:37 AMModerator -
Obviously one or more services are failing when you do normal boot. Eventlogs could possibly help you identify the cause of the problem. (Start, run, type eventvwr.msc and hit enter). You can also check if all reuired services are running (Start, run, type services.msc and hit enter). Look for services that are set to Automatic but not running.
Like Kariya21 already says please upgrade to the release version of PP1. Right now you're running unsupported PP1 beta. You probably have repeat restore, and restore to a date well before your problems started appearing after you have upgraded.
Also please run chkdsk /f / r on all partitions before doing restore.
Can you can also please try opening the backups on another machine? Just to check if the backups are OK.Tuesday, September 9, 2008 1:08 AMModerator -

I can't find anything relating to failed services in the event logs. All services with autostart are running.
I did install the RTM release of PP1. Isn't that what rev 6.0.1771.0 is? I tried PP1 beta for a month or so, and then did the upgrade following instructions when the RTM version came out.
I have opened backups for all computers on the other 3 computers with no problems whatsoever.
Because of a couple of other strange issues such as the msconfig issue I think I'm going to have to wipe and reinstall this computer to solve all these problems. What a pain. Although I guess before I do that I can go back to my very first manual backup and see if that solves all the problems.

Just to make sure I had the latest PP1 I uninstalled PP1 from the server and then reinstalled using Windows Update. Now the server is up to rev 6.0.1800.0.
I know I went through these steps before, but somehow must have reinstalled the beta version.
Anyway, this didn't solve the problem. Still can't open backups on this machine.

OK, so at least yout backups appear to be fine.
Before reinstalling I would try to repeat restore, and restore to a date well before your problems started appearing after you have upgraded.
Also please run chkdsk /f / r on all partitions of the client before doing restore.Tuesday, September 9, 2008 11:50 AMModerator -
