MAP Toolkit, is this for personal use or business?

    Question

  • I've never noticed this on my laptop until yesterday and I can't figure out what it is, what it's supposed to do? Is it someone a single user on a personal laptop needs to use? Do I need it at all?

  • Hello,

From cnet: Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit (MAP) is an agent-less, automated, multi-product planning and assessment tool for quicker and easier desktop and server migrations and upgrades. MAP provides detailed readiness assessment reports and executive proposals with extensive hardware and application information, and actionable recommendations to help organizations accelerate their IT infrastructure planning process, and gather more detail on assets that reside in their current environment. MAP also provides server utilization data for Hyper-V server virtualization planning; identifying server placements, and performing virtualization candidate assessments, including ROI analysis for server consolidation with Hyper-V.

If this is you own laptop, IE, not owned by a company, I'd ask in the Windows forum on Microsoft Community.

As the Microsoft Community is on a different platform, we cannot move the question for you.

Once there, click on Participate near the top of the screen, and select 'Ask a Question' or 'Start a Discussion':

If it's a company laptop, I'd ask your IT staff.

  • Hello,

This forum is for discussions and questions regarding profiles and Microsoft's recognition system on the MSDN and TechNet sites. It is not for products/technologies.

As it's off-topic here, I am moving the question to the Where is the forum for... forum.
