  • You're welcome, Benny. No problem in not mentioning the OS, that was just a thought. If you want to resolve your problems with Windows Update, check out the Windows Update Solution Center - http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527

  • Is this PC running Vista? If so, see this KB article for a fix - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939399

This thread in the Windows Update newsgroup also has a number of possible solutions, but the one that jumped out for me was a firewall issue on a router.

If OneCare can't reach Windows Update, it will tell you. I expect that it is accessing it differently than the way we access it via the Windows Update web site and the corresponding controls to load and search the catalog.

  • Thank you Steve for your time. Truth of the matter is I am a nubie and failed to mention that  I am using xp home prem. And after I thought about your answer if makes sense that one care would reach the update site in a unique way. So I feel better about keeping my machine up to date but still think that i should be able to reach the update site manually. Thanks again,                   Benny Strong

Glad to read that it is resolved.
