Switching 'Incoming Email' setting from "Server-Side Synchronization or Email Router" to "Forward Mailbox" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our CRM implementation is CRM Online 2015 Update 1.1.

We recently found out that approximately 110 users were added to CRM with the Incoming Email set to 'Server-Side Synchronization or Email Router".  Before we update these users to use 'Forward Mailbox',  I wanted to check with other folks to see if there are any known issues that we should be aware of.

    Thanks in advance.

  • No particular issues come to mind other than setting things up correctly. For the forward mailbox, you will need to configure a forwarding rule for each user to forward their incoming emails as an attachment to the forward mailbox.

And just as a reminder, you only need to monitor incoming emails if you need automatic email tracking for users or want to track emails sent to CRM queues.

  • Yes, it should be a server-side rule.

You can use the Rule Deployment Wizard that is part of the Email Router installation even if you aren't going to install the Email Router (perhaps because you are using Server Side Synchronization) but only for Exchange On-premises.

Download the Email Router and run the install but only tick the Rule Deployment Wizard component. This will automatically create the rule for each user configured with Forward Mailbox or you can manually create the rule. To install the Rule Deployment Wizard you do need to install an Exchange MAPI component which you can download.

  • Thank you for your quick response.  Very much appreciated.

I'm new to the email feature in CRM.  Is ' configure a forwarding rule for each user to forward their incoming emails as an attachment to the forward mailbox' this done on the Exchange server?
