Update: TuneUp Defrag Errors RRS feed

  • Wanted to give everyone a quick update on the numerous disk-defrag errors that you have been reporting as a part of Tuneup.

     

    It appears that the vast bulk of the errors that you have been seeing are a result of 2 conditions that should not be reporting such 'cryptic' errors, like "Internal" or "Unknown" error.

     

    They seem to break down into 2 conditions:

    1. Defrag times out after 15 minutes (the internally set maximum amount of time OneCare will defrag in one shot)

    2. Another disk-defrag program is running at the time OneCare tries to start its defrag.

     

    As a side note, the 15minute timeout still makes progress, and will eventually take your harddrive to a state where defrag will be completed in under 15 minutes.

     

    We are hoping to get a fix to change the error reporting for these conditions soon.

     

    If you think you are seeing a Defrag error that was caused by some other reason, please let us know.
