RAID Drives RRS feed

  • Question

  • First of all let me tell you how excited I am to be a part of this program!

I'll be using a Gigabyte dual processor board with an onboard Promise RAID controller and also an LSI RAID controller currently configured with four 80GB SATA drives in RAID 5. Although I haven't read all of the system requirements I do understand that RAID is not recommended. Does that mean I should configure all drives as independent disks (JBOD) and let WHS do the rest? This so cool!

  • yes, the recommended setup is to use JBOD.

I'll reserve comment on the "This so cool" until after you've installed! hehe!

  • I can see why you would want RAID-5 so you don't bottle neck on the wright/read. But since it still has to update since the all the parity data is still updated all the time I fined it useless. I have WHS running on a P4 2.4 with 512 RAM right now, and it has RAID-1 working on it right now, so if the main drive goes south no data will be loss. And yes I'm planing on testing how well WHS will respond to the main drive dieing.
