Moderators are now " owner " ?

    General discussion

  • Is TechNet changed ownership ?
I notice moderators now have " owner " affixed to their signature.

And one such "owner" has begun blatantly marking his own replies as answers.
Before he would at least wait for another moderator to "propose" it first, then he would mark his as answer.
Now, he is the owner and he just do what he wants ?

Perhaps it's time I disassociate from TechNet.

  • I have come across this.....

Forum Moderation Guide: Managing Posts and Threads: Marking Answers

I would like to bring your attention to Guidance #5.

Yes, it also said ..... You can still mark your own answers......

But, show some class for goodness sake.

1.The OP knows which reply works. Let the OP decide which reply is to be marked as answer.
    2. There are more than one moderator in the forums. If the reply is the correct one, other moderator, after 7 days, will come along and mark it. Why mark it yourself ? Desperate for points ? Desperate to stay on top of the Most Answers list ? Has a personal fuel with another replier and wants to mark his own as answer first before other moderators have a chance to mark the other person's reply ?

    This is bad.

    Pathetic in my book.

  • I always assumed, but cannot confirm, that you do not get points if you mark your own reply as an answer. I suppose I could test in the sandbox forum.

  • I just tested in a Sandbox forum. The question and reply show up in my profile activities, but not that my reply was marked (by me) as the answer, even after 25 minutes. There might be a delay, but I will report if the activity shows up. Or it might be that answers don't count in sandbox forums.

If you know of someone that marked their own reply as an answer, check the Activities tab in the profile to see if there is an activity for "answered the question", and if they got points. You only see the points in the new msdn profile, so change "technet" to "msdn" in the url, if needed. This new profile page allows us to check and verify points for the first time.

Also, I don't see any moderators listed as also being owner.

  • To show you a snip will reveal the ID of the mod in question.

At the present, I will not do so.
I have already emailed to fissues. I'll let them decide what to do.

  • I've checked a forum where I am a moderator and I'm shown as a moderator, not the owner.

Perhaps that person was made an owner of the forum in question.

  • I finally found someone (not a moderator) who marked their own reply as the answer. They did not have this activity in their profile, they did not get any points, and their statistics did not reflect the answer (they still have 0 answers). So you get no credit at all for marking your own reply as the answer.
